MEL WINDSOR

POM is thrilled to welcome Amelia (Mel) Windsor as our first Brand Ambassador.  With over 100k followers, many would already know Mel.  Mel is a British fashion model, fashion and travel writer and charity ambassador.

When Sabrina (POM’s Founder) first met with Mel, they discussed the impact of traditional menstrual products on the environment, with 45 billion period products discarded annually worldwide, with an afterlife of up to 800 years, it was no wonder that Mel wanted to jump on board and help get the word out there about a more sustainable, comfortable and healthier option.

Since being a POM user herself, Mel has found that she has “much less dread when my period comes.” Saying that her “ POMs are super comfortable and made from organic cotton that keeps you secure and at ease. I love that it is a small family-run business that celebrates your period instead of making it something to fear.”

In 2018, Mel modelled for the British make-up cruelty-free makeup brand Illamasqua.  That year, she also released a collaboration with Penelope Chilvers for a shoe made by hand in Spain.  Twenty per cent of the proceeds from her shoe collection were donated to War Child, a charity that aids children in conflict areas.

Mel is an ambassador for the Fashion Roundtable, a leading think-tank for the fashion industry that works towards more ethical practices at a policy level.  She continues to show her commitment to the cause through collaborations with slow fashion brands.  She has also collaborated with the ethical lingerie brand Alexander Clementine. This underwear, made from sustainable seaweed, requires 97% less water in production than cotton.

Mel also teamed up with BEEN London (sustainable ethically made accessories). Their ethical handbag collaboration, MEL X London, launched on World Earth Day. For every bag purchased, a tree is planted in the Peruvian Amazon. Mel has also supported Stola London, modelling a pyjama set made from hemp. Stola London switches up cotton for organic, natural fibres from the hemp plant. Hemp relies solely on rainwater to grow and uses five times less water to produce than cotton.

Mel has collaborated with knitwear label Brora, in which a portion of sales was donated to conservation group the Blue Marine Foundation, and is an ambassador for the British non-profit organisation No More Plastic.

Not only does Amelia support slow fashion brands, but she also sells her own pre-loved clothes on Depop. The sustainability ambassador donates the profits to the Cross River Gorilla Project, a charity that supports the critically endangered Cross River Gorilla.

Amongst all this environmental work, Mel has still managed to carve out a great modelling career.  In 2017 she walked the runway for Dolce & Gabbana at Milan Fashion Week.  That same year, Amelia was named in the Vanity Fair International Best Dressed List.  Mel has worked for Chanel, Azzedine Alaia, and interned at BVLGARI.  She has also contributed to Tatler magazine and Country and Townhouse. Currently she is a contributor for Hello Fashion Magazine

Amelia Windsor is a remarkable role model for sustainable fashion as she continually supports ethical clothing innovations. POM applauds all her work; she is a beacon of what can be done.

Let’s all help support Mel in her environmental and sustainability work and you can follow Mel at @amelwindsor on Instagram.
